According to the International Association of Fire Fighters, cancer is a leading cause of death among firefighters, causing 66% of firefighter deaths in the U.S. from 2002-2019. That means roughly two-thirds of the firefighters battling fires today will be battling cancer tomorrow.
Working together to fight cancer in the fire services, Intelagard has partnered with the Fire Fighter Cancer Foundation and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. These organizations are building awareness of this disease, educating firefighters on how to limit exposure to cancer, and they provide excellent patient support services and resources for those living with cancer. These organizations share a mutual desire of ours, Infection Prevention & Control in every Fire Department.
Cpt. Dave Rehnke was a driving force in promoting changes in cities and fire departments throughout the U.S. to make them proactive in cancer prevention, and early detection and treatment. The idea for a complete and comprehensive on-site decon kit came from Dave. Naming these lifesaving kits after Cpt. Rehnke is a small way to honor him for his service. For every bucket sold, one buck will be donated to the Firefighter Cancer Support Networkin honor of Dave Rehnke to further cancer research.
Doff ‘n DECON’s UL test results and SOG’s have been reviewed and verified by the Fire Fighter Cancer Foundation meeting the criteria for health, wellness, and safety.
